If you feel God may be calling you to a religious vocation, I recommend four steps:

Prayer

In order to know God’s Will, you must establish a relationship with Him.   You will find your vocation in the Blessed Sacrament.  Go to Him, Adore  Him, Seek Him, Listen to Him.

 Spiritual Direction

Find someone who can “lead you to God.”  This may be a parent, grandparent, teacher, priest – someone who is a faithful Catholic model for you and who is “in touch” with God and can help you discern God’s Will for you.

Research the vocations

Go to the “Links” section and see what how the Church explains the beauty of each vocation.  Seek the truth about the vocation to Holy Orders, the Consecrated Life, Holy Matrimony, and the Dedicated Single Life.  Throughout your research, don’t forget to keep praying and getting spiritual direction.

Visit with those living the vocation

Even if you feel called to marriage, go and visit a convent or seminary.  Ask those in formation how they felt God calling them to a religious vocation; ask them what were the challenges of following God’s call and what did they do to overcome them; see how they pray and live.  You will be pleasantly surprised to see the joy and peace those who have followed God’s call possess!
